The theme relates to the canonical land and earth artworks of the late 1960s and early 1970s, which, often located in deserts of the American South-West, were predominantly concerned with the horizontal. These trends have been juxtaposed by more recent\u00a0tendencies from the Alpine area increasingly concerned with the vertical. The vertical as a field of\u00a0inquiry\u00a0is reflected in the choice of this year’s academy cohort: instructors\u00a0and the speakers at the symposium, the artists invited to participate in the 2018 biennale Art Safiental and the authors who will contribute to the publication Landscape<\/em>.<\/p>\n In 2018 around 30 participants from 20 countries will participate in a 10-day program\u00a0(28\u00a0<\/span>June – 7 July 2018)\u00a0<\/span>exploring new trends in Land and Environmental art.
